Crimson Hexagon relocates to Boston’s Seaport District

Crimson Hexagon Inc. said it has relocated from Cambridge to new space in Boston’s Seaport District, a neighborhood that Mayor Thomas M. Menino likes to call the Innovation District.

Today is the firm’s official first day in new offices with about 11,000 square feet of space, or roughly quadruple the size of its previous office in Central Square.

Besides a need for more space, the firm wanted to be in a place that would help it recruit talent, and the Seaport District fits that bill, a firm spokesman said.

Since the start of the year, the firm’s head count has about doubled to 32 employees.

Using technology developed at Harvard University’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science, the firm helps its corporate customers to analyze and understand what consumers are saying about them and their products on social media.

Twitter is both a partner and a customer of Crimson Hexagon, which looks to make sense of some of the 250 million messages that are “tweeted” globally each day.

From this “fire hose” of data, Crimson Hexagon does market research for such customers as a unit of the public relations firm Edelman Worldwide, ad agency Venables Bell & Partners, and United Talent Agency — as well as Twitter itself.
