Ten Restaurants in Boston’s Seaport District

Dine Out in this Revitalized Neighborhood

By , About.com Guide

Boston’s Seaport District has undergone a renaissance, transformed by the city from a little-visited area with potential, especially considering its location on Boston Harbor, into one of the city’s most vibrant areas, featuring hotels, a convention center, and a wide variety of restaurants, each with characteristics that make them popular dining destinations.

Here are 10 of the most popular restaurants in the Seaport area.

1. Legal Seafood and Legal Test Kitchen

Legal Seafoods Seaport location is an impressive, modern structure – each floor of the three-story structure presents a different dining concept – featuring all the favorites that have made the restaurant a household name. Across the street, the Legal Test Kitchen meanwhile boasts a new menu every six weeks, giving diners the frequent opportunity to sample new creations that might end up on the flagship menu.

2. The Whiskey Priest

The Whiskey Priest features dozens upon dozens of whiskey styles, with a wide range of ages and prices, as well as an impressive beer and wine selection. Food options here include seafood, Irish specialties, sandwiches, and more. It’s also one of the city’s finest roofdeck dining locations.

3. No Name

Opening in 1917, No Name is Boston’s oldest restaurant that has remained under the same ownership. The Contos family serves up a variety of broiled and fried seafood, all available at famous, rock-bottom prices in a simple, seafarer’s atmosphere.

4. Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar and Grill

The newest of the Red Sox commentator’s restaurants, Jerry Remy’s menu features mostly typical pub fare, but the beer list here – with a host of local and national microbrews – is a delight. The atmosphere is more upscale than the Fenway location, and on warm summer days the glass windows open, providing al fresco dining and a spectacular view of the water.

5. Anthony’s Pier 4

One of Boston Harbor’s most popular destinations, Anthony’s Pier 4 is a Boston institution. Dine on a variety of seafood, lobster, and steaks. The building may feel dated, and the dinners on the pricey side, but the restaurant is undeniably a Boston classic.

6. J. Pace and Sons

Caterers J Pace and Son feature a full takeout menu of pasta specialties, calzone, soups, and hot and cold sandwiches. The deli is a great spot for a quick bite, or a stop on the way home to pick up dinner for the family. They also have locations in the North End, Saugus, and the West End.

7. Atlantic Beer Garden

Another destination for roofdeck dining and drinks, Atlantic Beer Garden has a menu filled with mostly pub fare, as well as a fine, if not wide-ranging beer menu. It’s a popular after-work destination in the summer, when you can normally expect a wait for a table on the roof. Great views of the city.

8. Aura

Award-winning chef Rachel Klein’s Aura is a fine dining restaurant with a seasonally-rotating menu featuring a mix of seafood and meat, artfully created by the restaurant staff. Located in the Seaport Hotel, the refined setting is as luxurious as the food.

9. Morton’s Steakhouse

The chain steakhouse doesn’t disappoint. Its Seaport location features all the regal, salivating seafood and steak options as their other famous locations nationwide. Morton’s also has another location in the Back Bay.

10. Salvatore’s

The warm, Italian atmosphere enhances the dishes at this local restaurant chain, features lunch and dinner menus including pizza, wraps and sandwiches, and a selection of Italian specialties.
